The power of yet.
Kids have a wonderful way of delivering powerful messages.
My youngest can be hard on herself and has some perfectionist tendencies, so when she came home the other day with an assignment called The Power of Yet, she was thrilled to share it with us.
In her class, The Power of Yet is all about showing growth and progress throughout the year. She might not know how to do something yet—but she will later. Her teacher gives them charts to track their progress so they can see that they’re learning something new. It gives them confidence not to stress when they’re in what her school calls “the learning pits.” (A brilliant term, by the way.)
We’ve all been in the learning pits, yeah? Wanting to already know something or get something without putting in the work to get there. Yep—it’s me. Hi. I’m the problem.
Hearing about The Power of Yet reminded me to enjoy the journey and to keep perspective: Chasing Lions is still a wee baby of a company. I don’t need to have everything figured out. My offerings don’t need to be over the top or spilling over with add-ons. Simple and purposeful is more than enough.
Experimenting and failing can be fun—if you let it be. Yelling into the void? Totally normal. (Hello, are you out there?)
Hearing The Power of Yet from the mouths of my kids gave me permission to chill the f*** out and be okay with simply starting, adjusting, refining, and—most importantly—playing.
PLAYING.
Holy shit. You mean starting a business can be fun and feel alive?
YES.
So that’s where I’m at with this whole business thing. I love what I do. I find Feng Shui deeply impactful in my life and in the lives of my clients. But I still have to come back to the concept of yet—because I’m human, and I really, really, reeealllly want to share everything I’ve learned.
And still, last week, I had to sit with “yet.”
My Power Moves Lesson
You’ve probably seen and heard me talking about my class Power Moves—it’s a badass class. I poured a lot into the content and the promotion.
I had a specific number in mind for how many participants I wanted to join, and I got about half that number.
Now—let me tell you—the women inside Power Moves are by far some of my favorites in all the land. It’s an amazing group that embodies exactly what the class is designed to teach.
And still, I was a little bummed about not hitting my goal.
Then a dear friend reminded me that the number I had chosen actually represented completion—not the beginning of the journey I’m on. The number I did reach represented the start.
That resonated so deeply—for where I am in my business, and for the beautiful souls in the course.
So I could beat myself up over a metric I pulled out of thin air, or I can be totally pumped knowing there’s so much growth ahead.
I’m here for that.
What’s Your “Yet”?
I have a sign in my garage that I see every time I pull in that says,
“What’s the best that could happen?”
That’s the energy I want for all of us.
So, what’s your “yet”?
What have you been waiting to enjoy or rushing through without stopping to literally smell the roses—and play in the process?
What’s the best that could happen if you just started?
