Kiddos and that delicious yang energy.

We live in one of those neighborhoods where the kids are free range - flowing in and out of the homes on our little pocket of the neighborhood.

At first, I had resistance to having kids in and out of our home. My nervous system was out of whack and the noise was a lot. A child’s laughter should not send you into fight-or-flight mode, but there I was.

Once I got my nervous system sorted out, I started simultaneously diving deeper into my feng shui practice. I learned that my home is the Director Archetype - it likes to be in charge, it likes order, and it prefers chaos to be left at the door.

So naturally, our home wasn’t exactly thrilled about a bunch of kiddos running wild. You could feel the energy shift when chaos would ensue. But my house and I both had a few lessons to learn. And may I also note, that is the funny thing about houses - they are meant to teach you something. So here are mine.

Lesson one (And this one goes out to all my perfectionists and Type A ladies out there): the mess doesn’t last forever. The kids eventually tire out, and once I realized how capable my own were when it came to cleanup, I started inviting them to help. And you know what? They love to help!

Plus, a messy house means creativity happened and screens were left tucked away.

Reframing the chaos - for myself and for my house - changed everything. The toys get picked up, the energy settles, and everyone relaxes. We all could take a big exhale.

Lesson two: kids running in and out of your home is actually a good thing. From a feng shui perspective, that kind of movement is a joyful form of Yang energy—bright, lively, and full of life. It stimulates the flow of chi, nourishing your home with warmth, community, and vitality.

So if you’ve got a revolving door of neighborhood kiddos, consider it lucky. That’s auspicious chi circulating all around your life.

For all my moms out there silently stressing - take a big exhale, unclench your jaw, and remember: this is good energy.
